This dissertation briefly explains the effects of continuing the hazardous waste trade, followed by a discussion of Thor Chemicals as a local example of this trade and its effects, before going on to discuss the international attempts at trying to curb this trade. The focus of attention will then turn to the merits and demerits of imposing an international ban. Finally, the document will conclude with a critical analysis of the law and policy governing hazardous waste in South Africa and possible suggestions to enable effective regulation of such waste in the future .en_US
