This paper serves to analyse social media misconduct in the workplace. The introduction of electronic and social media has brought about significant changes to how business is conducted. Despite its widespread benefits, social media usage has the potential to cause harm to a business entity. The aim of this dissertation is to analyse the different forms of harm that may befall a business through social media misuse, and the tools that are available and the steps that need to be taken to avert such harm. The analysis will be undertaken by referring to South African legislative and common law principles and by drawing a comparison with the approach adopted by foreign jurisdictions in respect of social media misconduct in their workplacesen_US
