| dc.description.abstract | Working in retail has historically been viewed as a temporary source of income rather than a career choice. Low rates of pay, long working hours and working on weekends and public holidays have contributed to retail being perceived as a stepping stone to another career. Thus, retail is known for having a high turnover of employees. The main aim of this study is to identify the factors that contribute to this turnover at Gorima‟s. Gorima‟s is a speciality spice retail store with 13 branches. With an abnormally high turnover, it was decided that a quantitative research study would be conducted. All employees of the company would be surveyed, obviating the need for choosing a sample size and sampling technique. In this study it was found that the high level of job satisfaction at Gorima‟s did not translate to a low level of employee turnover. While employees were satisfied working at Gorima‟s, they would leave without hesitation to take up jobs that were better paying or more preferred working hours. It was recommended that the employer move to reform particular elements of its Human Resources Management practice. This provides an opportunity for further research into these factors. | en_US |
